Minnesota's PLSS Base Map

An Example of Presentational Use of Cadastral Information

A portion of the Minnesota's statewide PLSS base map is shown below. This view is a small part of the 1:100,000 scale Worthington quadrangle. Similar coverage is complete for the entire state of Minnesota. This is an illustration of simple presentational use of cadastral data. For more information about Minnesota data, see the Minnesota Land Management Information Center Web site.

In the illustration at right, each of the smallest blocks shown represents a quarter quarter section. The black number in each quarter quarter section is a code identifying the quarter section quadrant and the quarter quarter section quadrant.

For example, for the number 14 in the light blue area of Section 31, the "1" indicates the first quarter section, and the "4" indicates the 4th quarter quarter section.

Other information shown on this map includes Township and Range numbers shown along Town and Range lines highlighed in red.

The Minnesota maps include other information such as county code, number of government lots, government lot numbers, acres, and comments.

(Worthington quadrangle sample data for this example was provided by the State of Minnesota Land Management Information Center, Division of Minnesota Planning. The data received from Minnesota was imported into ArcView and designed in ArcView for the above illustration.)
