Excerpt from Local Development Plan

Dane County Example

The corporate representative next goes to the county planning office to obtain information about current development plans in the area where his company is considering purchasing land and erecting buildings. At the planning office the representative finds a black and white development planning map for the City of Middleton. This document does not show any Range and Township designation. Upon very close inspection, however, the corporate representative finds extremely small indicators for section corners which look like this:

Inspecting this, along with nearby road names, the representative can locate the area of interest.

The map below is an excerpt from the local development plan for the areas in and around Middleton, in Dane County. The proposed land purchase and industrial development is along Evergreen Road near the western edge of the map. The portion of the land in question which falls within Section 10 is zoned for industrial use. Zoning status for the portion of the land which falls within Section 3 is either farming, or unknown.

Since the area in Section 3 appears to fall outside of the City of Middleton, and the area in Section 10 is within the City of Middleton, city and county zoning officials from the offices responsible for the lands would need to confer and share information. This would be an opportunity for the planning and zoning offices to make use of the Cadastral Data Content Standard.
