Land Information Display System
Web Access to Land Information
The Utah County Recorder's Office is at the forefront of automation, Internet use, and electronic recording. Utah County started 20 years ago reconciling records and parcel information, and then used coordinate geometry to create a well planned system.
Their success hinges on the aim to serve the people of the county with accurate information. One way of noting the success of their system is that there is little litigation in the county pertaining to land extent and ownership. Because the indexes and maps are accurate, the county can show accurate information and prevent potential disputes before circumstances go as far as litigation. Utah County is rapidly heading toward electronic recording – in which a document is sent as data, and it is signed and notarized digitally.
Unlike most other Recorder's offices, Utah County Recorder's Office does their own GIS mapping. Key among the office's activities is the direct sharing of data with the Recorder's, Assessor's, and Treasurer's departments. As data is passed from one department to the next, data for Parcels, map record IDs and coordinates remain the same.
The Recorder's Office makes information available over the Internet and on-line via Telnet. The remainder of this section describes some of these resources, and how they relate to the Cadastral Data Content Standard.

Land Information Display System
The Utah County Recorder's Office makes use of an automated information retrieval system, known as the Land Information Display System. Users of this system, such as title companies and local professionals, are issued username/password access. Once connected to the Land Information Display System via TELNET, users may enter queries on more than 60 categories. Information can be displayed on a wide array of topics, including parcel abstracts, appraisals, market value, tax rates, developments, and owners.
The example shown below illustrates results of a query. The query was issued by means of a command such as ABAC 10 14, which in this example searches city filing information on the county's book 10 page 14. Since this kind of search command is not obvious or intuitive, documentation of available queries and commands is available to approved users from Land Information Display System managers.
Note that information from the above query includes Block, Lot, Section, Township, Range, and DIR, which correspond to the following entities/attributes in the Cadastral Data Content Standard:
| Utah County Land Information Display System | Cadastral Data Content Standard Entity/Attribute |
| Block | PLSS Township Second Division/Second Division Type |
| Lot | PLSS Township Second Division/Second Division Type |
| Section | PLSS Township First Division/First Division Designator |
| Township | PLSS Township/Township Number |
| Range | PLSS Township/Range Number |
| DIR | PLSS Township/Range Direction` |
Another example of a query from Utah County's Land Information Display System is shown below. This example illustrates the results of a search for legal description and owner name for a specific property.
Information from the above query includes Acres and number of acres, and Owner Name, which correspond to the following entities/attributes in the Cadastral Data Content Standard:
| Utah County Land Information Display System | Cadastral Data Content Standard Entity/Attribute |
| Acres | Parcel Area/Parcel Area Unit |
| .74 | Parcel Area/Parcel Area Quantity |
| Owner Name | Agent/Agent Name |
